We’ve been hauling out the holly around here, and this photo made me really happy.
When we stumbled upon our home, it really looked absolutely nothing like this.
Once upon a time, it looked more like this.
And now… it doesn’t anymore.
But see that little area over there, in the bay window? When we found this house, we had a vision for it. Big and small, we knew one of the smaller ones, was a window seat over there.
It reminds me of my childhood since I had one in my bedroom. At three, it was my favorite spot. I would sit on it and talk to my neighbor friend though the window. I have this thing for bay windows. And clever storage. We kind of had to wait for that because we were doing so much, with all the phases of our renovations, we wanted to be sure this worked best for our kitchen, before we committed.
We kept meaning to build storage under that bay window, but took on so much DIY with this last space, we decided to splurge a little and have it built, when they installed our shelving.
I was sharing a little play by play on instagram, and we’re so excited to have it all put together for the holidays! Sometimes it’s nice, after doing so much DIY, to have something done for you.
It’s really fun to give the smaller corners of the home some love. And after really focusing on the entire home for so long, it’s great to circle back around to those little areas that need a little refined attention.
Here’s a better shot of how it looked before… old kitchen and all.
It was covered in storm windows and we loved replacing them with Window World windows in the first round of our renovation.
That alone made such a difference in the feel of the space.
And here’s how it looks now! The perfect little reading/homework/chat-in-the-kitchen, nook.
We love that the seat opens up below for storing all the things. We have yet to get it organized along with the back room, but it’ll make a great spot for larger kitchen items like crock pots, pressure cookers, and waffle makers, too.
We found this great cushion company, for this project. I loved their work so much, I knew that I wanted them to do our little project, as well.
They have a ton of beautiful items in their store, but you can also have custom cushions made!
We added a cozy pillow in the perfect size, and a blanket/towel we already had for shots of color.
One of my very favorite elements is this little vent added for detail. Adding the storage under the window redirected the heat flow, and it actually keeps the kitchen warmer in the winter months since it now blows on our feet. But the sweet little customized touch is what makes it oh so nice!
We adore these vent covers by Vent Covers Unlimited. We’ve used them throughout our house, along with projects for clients. They always offer an awesome solution to an otherwise potential eyesore when vents are in awkward places.
They’re also having a cyber sale this week, so be sure to check out the savings here!
What’s a little corner in your world that you’ve paid more attention to, recently?
We’d love to hear about some of your favorite areas you’ve given a little spruce up.
Have an inspired day!
