narwhal party and free printables

On Thursday this week, she turns 12. We celebrated this weekend with a narwhal party!

If you caught us on stories, then you probably saw the whole set up. A few of you have been all, “What a great idea!” 

But let me assure you… I had nothing to do with it… it was all her. She’s is still into themes, so I rolled with it. 

She’s my only girl, and she’s turning twelve. This won’t last much longer.

So Narwhal party, it was.

We brought on the color and the shimmer and all the fun little accents.

And it was the perfect little Narwhal party. 

Can we just have a moment? At the very most she should still be a screaming two year old who lit up our lives when she laughed. {Still does.} Yes, we did give her a blue ring pop. Yes, she was carefully supervised. Yes, that swimsuit is everything.

Feeling a little sentimental these days. Because babies don’t keep. 

Those. Cheeks.
 

You feel me parents, right?

Watching them grow is the best and the hardest all at once. Painful and glorious. Rewarding and insanely challenging. 

And I’m just happy that every now and then, she still likes to don a narwhal onesie and have fun.

Childhood is fleeting, after all. 

But back to the party. 

It’s not a very common theme, and everything that I could find was younger than we wanted.

So I was happy to whip up some free printables for the occasion. 

What we love about these, is that they’d work for boys, too.

We combined them with these for party favors:

From there, we just brought in some accessories that worked with all the fun colors.

We loved whipping up a few easy snacks {because chef I am not} to highlight the fun theme. 

Food Ideas: 

Narwhal Horns – 1 batch makes enough for 6 – 8 people {it’s rich} – what you’ll need

• white chocolate 
• Baking sheet with wax paper 
• sandwich bags 
• food coloring
• sprinkles of choice 
• bowl + spoon + access to microwave

In small increments, melt your white chocolate in a bowl in a microwave, stirring slowly. 
Once melted, add food coloring of your choice, and spoon into a plastic baggy. 
Repeat until you have all your colors. {For lighter colors – do one plain bag with the white chocolate} 

When you’ve gathered all your colors, place them in their bags in the microwave and heat back up on 50% power or less. PAY ATTENTION so that the bags don’t overheat and explode – this only takes a second and keeps the chocolate from glooping up. 

Cut a hole in the corner of each bag, and in small sections on the wax paper, make silver dollar sized dots, placed closely together in the general shape of a large rectangle. Chocolate colors basically need to touch, in sections but stay separate.

When you’re finished, lightly swirl together with a spoon going one way, then the other. The possibilities are up to you!

Add sprinkles. 
Let dry. 
Break up into small pieces for sugar-filled snacks.

Narwhal Poop: 1 batch can make enough to feed an army. You probably only need half the cereal

– think muddy buddies because this is basically the same thing.

• Chex Rice Cereal
• white chocolate 
• food coloring
• powdered sugar
• bowl + spoon + access to microwave
• wax paper

Take your white chocolate and melt in increments, depending on how much of each color you’ll want. Slowly stir each time you check on it – We found that about a generous fist full of white chocolate morsels melted, did the trick for each color. When melted, add food coloring to liking. 

Stir in your cereal, gently. Once coated, you can either add to a bag with powered sugar and shake, or stir in more powdered sugar. Set aside on wax paper to dry. 

Repeat until you have each color you want. 

Hint: because these will be covered with powdered sugar, the darker the food coloring, the bolder the narwhal poop.

Narwhal Kisses: 

• white chocolate 
• strawberries
• blue + green food coloring – to liking
• White edible pearl sprinkles
• spoon + bowl + access to microwave
• wax paper for drying

Rinse off strawberries and make sure they’re good and dry. I know. DUH. Only saying this because wet strawberries don’t coat well. 

Melt white chocolate slowly in bowl, stirring occasionally. 

Add blue + green food coloring to liking. This gives it that great aqua color.

Slowly dip strawberries and place on wax paper to dry – add sprinkles while drying

And because color themes…

We added blue m & m’s. 

And fun purple gum balls. 

Under the sea, and stuff. 

We love the way all these fun little accents came together for her fun party! 

Extra supplies: 

balloons / plates / straws / napkins / narwhal party hats / bottles {similar} – filled with blue gatorade.

tassel garland – buyer beware – you have to assemble them, and time wise, I wasn’t ready. – if I wanted to make my own…

And that’s how we pulled it together! Just a little extra fun for an at-home party.
