It’s been about a month since I shared our last update with you. I know you are all, did she die? Did the house collapse in on her, sucking her into a huge vortex a-la Poltergeist because they undoubtedly uncovered a mass burial site with their ridiculously deep foundation hole? Because it definitely rained like that scene when the skeletons pop up, right before they escape and everything gets sucked in. For at least a week straight. And then per usual with anything construction, there were a few hiccups along the way with the foundation. Thus why we were so nervous about it because wheeeee! But it’s resolved and here we are.
A friend asked me a few weeks ago, if everything was underwater and I said “yes”, thinking she was speaking metaphorically. But she meant literally, so that too. The addition sat for almost three weeks with zero progress. That, combined with the fourth quarter craziness with site stuff and our day jobs for clients {both for which we are so incredibly grateful} and well… it’s been a minute.
This is a still from a video I shared on insta – but we pumped out all the water – yes we do live in Seattle
Then we blinked, and now we have framing. WHAT.
But necessary backtracking if you have no idea what I’m talking about:
• We were thrilled to announce our primary owner’s suite addition this summer + a history of our house.
• Here, we shared our plans, where we’ve been working with an awesome architect {Peter Aylsworth Architecture is our hero, so if you’re looking for an amazing person, look him up.} In the meantime, we also shared a little of what we’ll be taking on in our front yard this fall, to solve our mullet prob, as well.
• And the beginning of it all, here.
So five years in, {yes, it’s been a five year process} and I didn’t even get impatient. I looked out at the small concrete pond in our yard, waiting for some skeletons to pop up through the mud, and I was all C’est la vie. It sounded more like SAY LAH VEEEEE because these {slightly redneck} roots run deep.
It’s wrapped, so it’s hard to see where anything is from the outside, but it’s coming along quite nicely.
And today, if you’ll humor me, I’m going to walk you through some floor plan progress, so you can see it all.
Yes, right now it’s totally awkward. Stay with us.
Walking in from the kitchen, this is what you’ll see immediately. We have a butler’s pantry, and a laundry room.
Here’s another view from the front. We love the way this will integrate seamlessly with our existing architecture. The move here was brilliant to use the cantilever to our advantage, since we had very little wiggle room due to codes, setbacks and more.
But it gives us room for a washer and dryer, which is HUGE, because this will ultimately free up more space in my studio/basement area.
Right here, it’s as if we turned to the right to see where the entry will go. we’ll have counter space with both lower cabinets and uppers.
Another view of the laundry cantilevered out, alongside the walk through pantry. These will be separate rooms.
Turning left, you’ll enter our bedroom. We love the way we were able to utilize the tall ceiling heights in both spaces, to not only tie in seamlessly, but offer more visual height.
It holds a fireplace and space for a TV {nope, I’m not a purist, give me the TV in that bedroom} but I do like hiding it with art. We also plan to have shelving and drawers flanking each side of the fireplace.
Oh, and if you’re wondering, those windows are on the flip side of the pool room. They’ll be going, replaced with drywall. I’m honestly totally okay with it, because I’ll have more wall space, and this room gets plenty of sunlight.
Here’s the opposite side of the room, for bed placement in between both windows. Again, smitten by those ceiling heights.
We plan to add two french doors here, {we changed our minds and it needs to be blocked out} but this is the entrance to our closets/bath.
The right side is Jamin’s. He’s kind of mad about it.
The left side is mine.
These photos really don’t do it justice.
Also, we’ve been living with this for five years, so we’re actually THRILLED.
And did I mention that at some point, our middle moved into our bathroom, so all three of us have been sharing this bath for a few years now? IT IS TIME TO MOVE. We’re just thrilled it’s all worked out.
One Christmas, I purchased a Caboodle for our middle, thinking she’d love that 80’s/90’s trend just like I did. As it turns out, it came in handy for me. ME. I have been living out of a caboodle for years now. They’re handy and cute and stuff but needless to say, we’re ready for a real live functioning bathroom where we can do little things like, I don’t know… brush our teeth at the same time without elbowing each other in the eyeball.
So in the bathroom we have a separate toilet space…
Separate vanities on each side of this room, and a zero entry shower.
I can’t tell you what I’m doing with under the window yet, but I think you can take some guesses. ;}
What we’re so thrilled about is that this will be an entry from the pool. No more tracking through the house with wet feet to find a toilet area, because it’s right here. SO MANY GOOD THINGS THAT WE’RE THRILLED ABOUT! It’s all about all these little changes that are adding up quickly, to make a huge difference in our home.
This is us trying to take an awkward selfie in the framing.
We have a little bit of a video tour on instagram today, but we do love what all is happening with this space!
They’re finishing up the roof as I write this, and next we have electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
We plan to share all our design choices as we go. Stay tuned because that’s definitely my favorite part. We’ve waited so long this feels like a dream. Thanks for tuning in, and let us know if you have any questions!
Have an inspired day!
