This primary bathroom reveal has been a long time coming. So I’m thrilled to share it with you today! So much of a long time coming, that I’m not even sure what to write as my “opener”. So here’s a pretty photo, instead.
I love little moments in our house. The little areas where you turn a corner or enter a room, and it makes you catch your breath, you love it so much. This is one of them.
If you’ve been following here for a while, then you know that since circa 2016, we’ve planned for this primary addition. We moved into our 1976 fixer upper that we purchased for the yard and the school, and began the process of making it into a home. During all that time, three of us {our daughter refused to share with her two brothers} shared a very small bath. {Her room now here} -Both chaos and fun memories ensued.
We’ve now taken this house from about 1600 sq ft, to over 3700. And we’ve gained more value than we ever really thought {more than a ton of equity} in the process. I’ve joked about selling this house when I’ve lost my patience. More like threatened it through clenched teeth whilst building on our latest crazy idea on more than one occasion. The kids promptly tell me good luck with all my endeavors, because they’re staying here. We all love it here, really. Even when I get mad and say things I don’t mean. This has been a process, but we’ve truly made this house a home. Everyone is happy and settled after all this time. In the end, it’s all we could ask for.
Because setbacks and regulations were so tricky with septic, this primary build was a design collaboration with our architect. And we couldn’t be more thrilled with being {almost} finished!
See the stained glass doors here + more projects like this, here.
I shared moving in, this summer… but it was actually far from “done”.
Partially because of the state of the economy with unpredictable lead times and partially because cobbler’s kids have no shoes, slowly but surely it’s all been pulled together. This primary suite contains a butler’s pantry, laundry room, primary bedroom, and bath. We’re very close to having all of them finished {great room included – another sneak peek here}.
So I’ll be sharing them all here one at a time, if you’re curious. I don’t think I’ll know what to do with myself when that happens. While we have more projects for our own home up our sleeves, besides a little springtime clean-up and yard work, we’re definitely ready to focus solely on our business for a while.
This bathroom was carefully planned with every inch of space considered carefully, from storage to smart design. I can’t tell you how much I adore having my very own vanity for the first time in twenty years of marriage. Or this zero-entry shower with heated floors. And yes, I love that blue tile.
It literally feels like a spa. Our clients tell us all the time that their finished spaces feel like staying somewhere luxurious. I always laugh and tell them that’s the goal. Sure, we have the urge to travel, but your home should feel like an escape from the world every day.
Jamin’s one request for this bathroom, was this giant shower. He lived/worked in Germany one summer in college, and the family he stayed with had a massive shower. He never got over it, so here we are. My one request was this giant tub. We’re very happy with both.
These vanities were custom designed by me, with an amazing company. The colors here are SW Mindful Gray, {cabinet} SW Egret White {walls} + SW Pure White ceiling + we added planks + a white oak beam to the ceiling. Our entire home is now planked on the ceiling in some capacity, and we love that we carried this detail throughout. Side note: this paint on this particular ceiling is an antifungal mildew-resistant paint.
Side note, but the door here, leads out to our deck + pool area, and connects with our pool room. Perfect for those summertime dips in the pool! And the backyard space now has access to a bathroom, without the need to go upstairs to the boys’ hallway bath.
So I love how all of the spaces tie in together with intentional colors and design, even though it’s happened slowly over time.
Because septic had us so limited with the area we were able to build, we’re very happy that in the end it feels so spacious. The entire house is honestly the perfect size, and the layout feels good without being overwhelming when we’re empty nesters. Yes, we’ve thought that far in advance with our long-term plans.
Here’s the view of the doors from the tub area. I grabbed a very large towel rack for this side of the wall, as well as some quirky little flea market finds in these frames I’ll be sharing later.
At night, with the lights on, it sparkles. Here’s a sneak {daytime} peek.
These doors lead to the water closet area, if you’re curious… I had no idea what a luxury a separate toilet area was, until I went without one for all this time.
The simple barn doors also lead to our closets.
Here’s another view of this tub because I can’t get enough.
And I love this angle of the shower to show how far back it goes. The two shower heads definitely keep it warm! I’m amazed how easy it is to clean a larger shower. Less splash = less mess.
We designed the shower at an angle, to keep the space open and flowing smoothly. But I love the double-door solution. It adds a little sparkle and interest.
Elements and Products We Love:
Here are our favorite products that really made the space – listed below if you’re curious!
• Fixtures:
We love all things Delta!
We love For the shower, these for the shower, we went with the Cassidy line. TempAssure® 17T Series Shower Trim In Champagne Bronze combined with a rain head in the center.
We love that the Delta® H2Okinetic® Showers sculpt water into a unique pattern, giving us more coverage with less water. They also have TempAssure® which is perfect for kids. I said above that our shower feels like a spa, and these shower heads make it that way. The rain head shower sends it over the top.
• Sink faucets: We combined it with these faucets for the sink to continue the look: The Cassidy™ Two Handle Widespread Bathroom Faucet – Less Handles In Champagne Bronze.
I love a good, traditional design, and this one is no exception. It has the same fabulous easy-to-install and clean qualities. It’s also backed by Delta Faucet’s Lifetime Limited Warranty.
• Tub Filler: We also continued the look with their amazing tub filler in the same finish. I’m obsessed with the easy handle that makes it so simple for cleaning and filling that tub. We’re all about those options.
• Windows:
Something I adore about this space is the natural light and the lighting inside, as well.
The beautiful windows are of course, Window World. You can grab a better view from the outside via deck photos above if you follow that link. I’ll be showcasing those a little more when everything isn’t dead outside from the big freeze we had in December, but the natural light has made a huge difference. They’re double hung and easy to clean when we need to get to them to do so. They’re perfect for that center look, and I love the way they worked with the tub for that “moment” I was really going for. Which leads me to…
• Lighting:
Of course, all things Kichler. Their pieces and finishes work perfectly with all things Delta to create the perfect combination in any space.
For the chandelier, we went with their Topiary 6 Light Chandelier in character bronze. I’d originally chosen another Kichler light, which ended up hanging in our bedroom. We debated a ceiling fan {they have really great options} but I am a chandelier lover at heart. So this one was perfect for over our tub. It’s like jewelry for the bathroom.
For the vanity areas, this backlit bathroom mirror {it’s the most flattering!} paired with these two sconces make my heart swoon.
We also used their amazing downlights to add even more options. Great lighting in a bathroom is essential, and this space brought the goods with all things options. I took a shot here so that you get an idea as to how amazing it really is, all lit up.
• Countertops: Because we went custom with our cabinetry, we’re able to use more durable countertops. Thrilled to be installing shadow storm quartzite for something both durable and natural. I have this thing for natural stone. I love that it’s so different depending on the slab, too. Mine has more movement while Jamin’s vanity is quieter.
• Tile: We’re smitten by this tile from Jeffrey Court – I’m a big fan of the way it wraps around the bath for an inclusive feel. Having already used this bathtub quite a few times, the backsplash definitely comes in handy to have next to the wall. The beveled edges shimmer in the light and gives it more of a polished feel. We went for classic and timeless for this one in contrast with the fun floor tile + wallpaper.
• Wallpaper: This bold and beautiful wallpaper that I’m absolutely smitten with. I love it paired with everything in the space, especially the white tile for an awesome look. Get a look at its production here because SWOON.
• Tub: I chose this Brighton 67 in Matte White Acrylic Double Ended Freestanding Tub. It reminded me of a throwback to the antique shapes I’ve spied in older homes, and I fell in love with the unique look. I think on some level, it also reminded me of my grandmother’s house. Call it nostalgia. Call it my own spa. It’s THE BEST.
• Hardware: We paired Liberty’s classic shape via all things D.Lawless – our favorite source for hardware.
• Vent Covers – throughout, matching the rest of our home – we’re HUGE fans of Vent Covers Unlimited. It’s all about the details and we love the way they all came together!
Blinds: The blinds in here are continued throughout our home from the pool room. They offer much-needed privacy at night and we love that they’re light blocking so that we can keep the light our of our bedroom, as well. The window shades are amazing from Select Blinds – fully lined and in the prettiest of finishes. We chose ours in Bahama Palm.
We just love this space and are so glad we can fully enjoy it now.
