Remember the kitchen post from last week?
We took on another project this weekend. Are we crazy? Probably. But once we were done with the kitchen, we had a little problem…
the laundry room was suddenly this big brown nuisance of grossness right off of the kitchen, and it was a lot more noticeable than before. While I’d painted it a soft green/grey the week we’d moved into the place, it was time for a change.
It was just so heavy. and I couldn’t be more over it.
We didn’t take any of the cabinet doors off this time. Because I needed the storage. Where else do you think I keep all my ridiculous-borderline-unhealthy-gazillion art supplies? But we did have an generic door with a generic doorknob that took up half the room when I we opened it up…and it was just one big awkward space. See that spot above in the lower left corner? These are the kind of cabinets we were dealing with. The kind that “look nice” but are just as well off painted, as they’re basically made of laminate paper. BLECH.
So, again, we got to work. {side note: as an added bonus for tackling this room AND the kitchen, I totally got a head start on my spring cleaning…bags upon bags were removed from the premises…go us!}
See what I mean by right off the kitchen? The dark wasn’t flying with our new look. But Luckily, this was a quick weekend project. Labor intensive. But quick.
we started by wrapping the room in board and batten. But instead of ripping up the baseboards, we totally followed Sarah’s lead, and placed a flat board above the existing base boards. Beginning from there, it saved us hours of work, and we love the look. Props to Sarah! I actually love the rustic feel it gives.
The colors we used are once again, BM’s Chantilly Lace, and Wedgewood Grey. It gave the laundry room a bit of contrast from the kitchen, and I love the pop between the white and blue. Can’t you just smell the fabric softener?
does that fabric look familiar? I simply pulled some in from the kitchen, and made some really super easy cafe curtain panels.
The room just actually feels like a laundry room, now. We also took off that door, and sealed up the holes it left behind. It gives the entire area a fun, open feel. No more nasty doorknobs. {no more rolls of fabric stashed behind the door…that may or may not have happened.}
I made a small sign for the countertops. My grandmother called the building where she kept her laundry ‘the wash house.’ It, and her house, were the coolest, happy nostalgic places growing up, so it just felt right to make a vintage-esque sign to sit in its rightful place. The wash house always made me happy, because it had a really cool shower outside. {when you’re little, rando showers are totally cool}
in stark contrast, I also threw in this sign from last week. I paired it with one of my industrial stools that never sold. What a shame…Guess I’ll have to keep it…
the kids finally have a space to stash their school stuff.
it kind of makes me want to do the laundry. {shhh. don’t tell Jamin.}
It never ceases to amaze me…what a little paint can do.
Be sure to check out our room redo giveaway, here!

I have wanted to do my horrible, unfinished laundry room for a long time now. Thanks for the inspiration.
Absolutely Love It!
Wow love the makeover! It looks incredible! Makes me want to spice up our laundry hall, but not quite sure how yet. Thanks for the ideas!
Gorgeous! We have a cement, 2×4, and insulation laundry room right now, so I get the pleasure of starting from scratch, assuming my husband will allow me the fun of finishing it someday. I am oh so in love with your style, so don’t be surprised if I copy it someday. š
Haha go for it! Sounds like a plan š
I would love to know what paint color you used…. beautiful!
Stunning!!!! I love the B&B and the colors and the YELLOW! Ahhhhh! Great job y’all! š
I absolutely love it! Tell me again what brand the Wedgewood Grey belongs to so I can get my painter guy to mix me some up. I think I shall paint my dining room.
Thanks

It’s fabulous! I mean, really? I might actually wash clothes if I had that room! š
No surprise, I love it! Love. And I still love all the art work in the kitchen. It makes the house feel real, like a Velveteen Rabbit.
So stinking insanely jealous!! It’s beautiful AND huge!!! š Thanks for the shoot out lady!
Uhhh…that would be shout. Don’t shoot. Dear Lord.
Beautiful! can you tell me what kind of countertop that is (name, if you know it).

the beadboard in this room…is it ribbed, like regular beadboard? or is it flat? because it looks flat in the picture and i can’t tell š i’d love to do a similar square pattern on my existing bathroom walls (which are a horrendous shade of sky blue!)
hey girl. no beadboard at all. just pre-primed mdf pieces on the wall. The only raised parts you see are the only parts we added. They were put on white, and then we painted the whole thing, wall included. It just looks like a large addition, but we saved money and time by only adding the strips of mdf. and then painting. I hope that was clearer than mud! š
oh…so the white part is actually just regular old wall, trimmed with mdf! fascinating! how well does mdf paint? was it fairly easy or did it require multiple coats?
Very nice! I love the clean look with the white paint. It really brightens the room!
What an impressionant job!! It is incredible. Lovely!!
Regards.

I love your site! I just stumbled on it thru Pinterest! Someone had posted a pic of a bookcase under the stairs. Now that I have arrived at your site, I LOVE it! I am still perusing it, but found a photo I loved, so I decided to post on Pinterestmyself, it is the “I’m too sexy for my laundry” laundry room photo. Just though you would like to know.
Thanks

I saw in your post today that you have a super cute red rug in your laundry room now. Can you tell me where you got it? I love it š
Hey girl! Thanks for asking here, because that was a sponsored post + a giveaway + I wouldn’t have been able to answer. ;} TARJAY, baby!
Thanks! I figured you might have missed it in the other post š How recently did you get it? I think that would be perfect for my kiddos’ room!
