If you caught our last renovation before and after, then you probably spied this amazing door addition to our client’s space. It was a game changer for sure when it comes to creating more of a study space for them. The style alone, brought a lot of character. We love doors – clearly we have a thing with them – and today we wanted to talk a little bit about the power of doors when it comes to a renovation.
Have you really thought about it before? Doors are the entrance you use to enter or leave a space, often placing your hands on them so they’re a design element that you have contact with physically. In a lot of ways, they’re very much the first impression you receive before entering a room. They’re one of our very favorite design elements when it comes to establishing a space. And in the past {see the massive uptick of builder grade homes beginning circa 1990} they’ve probably sat on the sidelines for much too long when it comes to their role as important design elements.
One of our very favorite sources we love, is Rustica Hardware. {The artists formerly known as Artisan, in case you’re a long time reader and wondering why the name switcharoo.} And today we just wanted to showcase some of our very favorite pieces that have come straight from them to our own spaces, as well as client homes.
We love the modern take on this steel + glass french door. Because steel and glass European vibe never gets old.
What we love about Rustica, is all of their endless options. We were thrilled to place this outdoor barn door with hardware in our cabana. It brought an entirely new element to the space and feels like hanging artwork. On the other side, we keep all the unsightly pool supplies like chemicals, cleaners, floats, towels and more. All so we can entertain in the main space.
One of my all time favorites will forever be our very own basement renovation. What I love about Rustica, is their endless, customizable possibilities. I sat down and sketched these out, and chose a color. They delivered. It was amazing. They’re some of my very favorite pieces.
Note the minimal size of the hardware as well, so that it didn’t interfere with our tricky ceiling. On the other side of these doors are my office, and soon-to-be-completed storage space, now that our laundry room is upstairs. {More on that coming up + a peek of our new door for that space below.} So these doors are invaluable and hardworking to divide the space when it comes to entertaining, slumber parties, and more.
It doesn’t hurt that they’re gorgeous, too.
This is one of my own personal favorites as well, in the pool room. When we added our {second} addition on to our home, we knew that we needed a door to allow plenty of light and flow, but we also wanted it to give us a little privacy when we wanted to divide the space. From using this room as my studio with painting and stained glass, to movie nights with the family or entertaining at night… the door is perfect and I’m obsessed.
When our clients needed to divide a traditionally {and unnecessarily long} living room into a modern day study… we knew just the solution. These doors added so much to divide the space and allow for privacy, but also create an openness without closing off the house. They’re soft close, so they’re perfect for little fingers as well. My one regret? Not styling this skeleton with a flower crown on reveal day – I really should have captured her thrilled satisfaction with the space.
But look how good it looks now! GAWGEOUS.
Which brings us to… our new addition {still finishing up those polishing touches} with these gloriously fabulous laundry room. It was a much-needed space for our home, and we ADORE the door here. We went for pocket since we were able to plan ahead, and it’s a treat to open and close… We opted for frosted glass, so it still allows for light flow, but if we need to cover up our laundry day that wasn’t folded at the moment… that’s a possibility too.
Usually we close the door to block out the sound of the dryer, and it is wonderful for noise control, too. At night it glows if the light is on behind it, so it just feels so fun to have as a part of our addition. More on the final reveal coming in the future, but for now… we’ve moved our big chill fridge here too and it’s just great to have everything on the main level of our home.
Another arena in which Rustica is fabulous is their barn door hardware. We used them here to allow for more space by knocking down that in between wall and opening up the entire closet. The boys now share this closet with their rooms on each side, and it’s the perfect little set up.
I love this angle because it shows so much of a pretty little view. The same is in Emerson’s room with their hardware, as well.
We simply added to the stained glass we sourced at the local flea market {the sister windows are in our kitchen} and it makes such a pretty addition for her space.
This room has truly come a long way!
These are just a few of the ways that we love Rustica. From full-on custom creations to the hardware to top off your piece… they have such awesome options. Be sure to check out their site for more styles, because these are just a few of their examples. What are some of your favorite elements from their awesome shop? We would love to hear! Have an inspired day.
