We. Have. Toilets.
Yes we do.
We want to love them and hug them and snuggle them and never leave them. Ever. I’m basically giving them names and adopting them into our family because NO MORE PORTA POTTIES. Or buying gum at the gas station when porta potties just weren’t cutting it. TMI? Probably because we’re delirious.
I know I look a little Gollum-with-his-precious in this photo. Thats because if you take my potties away, I will cut you.
It’s just that I’m so excited. We all are. That, and we were on our sixth day straight of working on the house with no breaks. And then coming back to homework, piles of laundry and working at night to catch up on our real jobs. I believe this is week no. 5554... or at least it definitely feels that way at this point. The days add up when you don’t rest. And I didn’t care what I looked like… it needed to be documented.
In other news, maybe Malone and I will re-capture this photo when he’s leaving for college. I’ll save the outfits and everything.
Because we are so close. And I think that makes it even harder. On the home stretch with a few little things left, along with the hardwoods. Oh those hardwoods. We love that we took on such a big chunk of the redo ourselves… because septic. And we really just want the kids to be settled after all this time.
But that can be hard to remember when you’re dangling from a ladder over the staircase on a self-made scaffolding {don’t try this at home, kids} for the five millionth time, just to paint the trim… and the hubs decides to fire off a nail gun below sans warning. You find yourself announcing his impending murder over sheer exhaustion, due to his lack of warning you before said loud noise, because you almost lost your balance, and fell to your own death. So then he yells “fire in the hole” repeatedly and you a. know you’ve been married too long because you knew he would do this and b. you complete the plans in your head for said murder, because this is the only way you can possibly push through your exhaustion. {Nancy Grace will probably quote this on TV later over some heated debate while I sit solemn-faced in the courtroom. If I’m going to murder someone, you’d better believe it will be high profile. I’m going down in flames, baby. JK this is the paint fumes talking.}
All I really want, is a hammock in my back yard so I can go take a nap. I have no idea why a hammock sounds so appealing right now, probably because I need someone to hold me in the fetal position while I sway and gaze at the sky and think happy thoughts. It’s probably for the best. Because I would end up there. Unresponsive. Every day.
Let’s just say we’re learning the importance of rest. And why it’s recommended. We just haven’t stopped.
After this, we get to pack up all the boxes and move for the second time. WHEEEEEE!!!
#holdme #firstworldprobs
But in the meantime, I thought we’d talk a little upstairs progress.
Be gone, red. And curtains that gave me twitches.
Because without my parents, I wouldn’t have finished now that Jamin has moved on to hardwoods… {I’m soon to join him in that effort + we have this guy helping us, too}. But we’re finished with the painting. It was honestly the ceilings that did us in with the blue/white/grey transitions. It was so much work but my oh my are they worth it.
We lack the doors this week… which my mom and I will tackle tomorrow. She’s a godsend, I tell you. They’ll be painted a pretty grey color.
Here’s the list with the original post in case you guys are curious about our paint colors… things have changed with the design a little bit as far as the ceilings are concerned, but the colors have stayed the same.
But back to the progress… because hallelujah the majority of the painting sans a few touchups {I’ll be touching up this house until I’m 80 if Nancy Grace doesn’t take me away} we’re done.
I’m just so excited about how the kids room is coming together. They call this their death star light. {Swanky bulb to come – this one is for light whilst working at night – no worries} I was just thrilled they were happy with it because I was obsessed and wanted them to want it. Of course, it wouldn’t have gone in if they’d hated it. But happy we are, none the less. Rambling over and out.
If you remember, here’s a little board I put together for the kiddos’ space. I can’t wait to piece it together, and make it fun and comfy just for them.
If you’ve been reading for a while, you know they’ll share one big sleeping room for a while, until we complete the addition {hopefully in a year, if finances allow- and no worries, because all this septic drama, we won’t have to go through it again}. Then they’ll each get their own space. In the meantime, they’ll also have the basement for playing, along with the giant yard/pool which is the entire reason we purchased this house. So we think they’ll manage just fine. This way Jamin and I take the other room {Emmy’s future space – which now contains her requested light – she wanted it up and hanging, waiting for her… so we obliged. Little things that help with major family transitions… they’re now doing pretty darn wonderfully after a few bumps in the road.}
We have the studio space so we can continue to work from home {for now}. But this will eventually be Malone’s room.
You may notice our light fixture back in its place… Hello, old friend. #newownerscouldnthaveit {It will be relocated and Malone will pick his own light in the future, because I know he will not be having this brass/sparkle nonsense} The awesome drum light we’d picked is going in the basement, instead.
This space will connect to Aidens a-la the closets we knocked through for more space.
We’d initially thought that this shelf was going. But since we learned from HVAC last week that we could not move the vent to the ceiling for cross ventilation, {no space in the roofline} and I wanted to keep the linen closet in the hallway {this was my other option} we’re now keeping this bookshelf.
Which I’d initially wanted to hold on to, anyway. So we spiffed him up with a little extra trim, some sanding, and a fresh paint job.
Our linen closet has come a long way. He’s still not finished… but a long way none the less.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I painted each and every shelf, top bottom and side… after the shelves were installed.
It just kind of happened that way. But I still wanted a blue closet. It’s the little things.
All the fixtures are in, in the bathrooms.
We’re kind of thrilled with how pretty they are.
Her faucet may be my fave.
Since we’re so close on these, I’ll probably save any more over-all photos for the reveal. I know its obnoxious, but that’s because we like surprises. I’m getting so excited!
And for the boys’ bathroom…
And these, here.
I was just thrilled to finish this hallway Saturday. And to have a pull down access to our attic for plentaaaay of storage.
With a sneak peek of our tile in the kitchen, that also happened! It sparkles in the afternoons. Apparently, I’m all about the sparkles. Yes, those countertops are protected with layers of plastic, foam, and moving blankets.
And my body in case something falls on them. I’ll take the hit.
And because they haven’t made an appearance in a while, Rigby and Fitz are anxiously waiting to inhabit the house as well. We haven’t forsaken them, either. Hopefully they’ll run off the ghosts / clown in the crawlspace. ;}
And because it’s almost halloween… I thought it was time to resurrect this photo – we didn’t have time to go to a halloween party this year, but if we did…
And that’s the upstairs progress. Hoping to have hardwoods in soon. And ourselves, too. Stay tuned + thanks for stopping by.
Have an inspired day!
Looks awesome! Hang in there! Where did you get the porthole mirrors for the boys’ bath?
Oh my goodness! Your kitchen!!!!! I want to see more!
This is looking so pretty. I’m so excited to see the big reveal. I know you are beyond exhausted,but is so worth the work. Hopefully,the holidays will be happy in your new home.
Yay -you guys are making good progress, finally. I’m so happy for you.
