I have to confess, we really kind of enjoyed hunkering down in the apocalypse these last few months. We were the dorks that enjoyed the down time. We’ve shared the back yard makeover, part 1. This included the porch, {with tutorials for the brick pavers + privacy wall} and a little sneak peek of our fence, which we promise to have a full-on tutorial here.
If you’d like the back story on the great yard saga, you can get a glimpse of our initial lemons into bricks post here {if anyone is wondering why on earth we would torture ourselves by laying bricks }+ the plans here. We’ve also been busy with a lot of landscaping in the meantime, so basically the yard projects have been non-stop.
To the point where I may or may not have hit a wall about a week ago. Both of us did. Between client work, creating fresh site content, representing brands, and all the yard projects, we were pooped. AND TOTALLY grateful.
But this fence was definitely ready to come down.
Who knew our yard was so big?
We’ll come back to the whole thing, but we adore the way it’s opened up our yard. Seriously. We’re waiting to paint it, so we’ll revisit this with all the details… in a few weeks.
But today we wanted to talk about the beginning of part 2: the cabana.
Because we are super excited about this phase, for more reasons than one.
When we first found this house, the back yard looked like this.
Here’s where we’ve taken it so far.
Yes, eventually we wish to replace the roof on the older portion, but it’s not time yet. Shhhh. No judging of the brown roof. It’s time will come and we’re still glad it’s kicking.
And here’s a better view of the end of the pool, which is where we’re focusing today. Because when we were able to take possession of the house, it looked like this. Ew. Thanks for totally neglecting that one, old owner. You’re awesome.
But here’s a view from the back which is now our pool room addition, from the first time we laid eyes on the property.
I’ll try to find a better photo when we show progress shots, etc. Because we know this one is lame. But the purple shed hurt our eyes. We temporarily repainted it white, and then decided to heck with it… let’s add another privacy wall and a cabana area.
So I stepped out the other morning {We’d packed up the pretty things because of a rain storm} and snapped this photo.
And here are our preliminary plans.
This photo doesn’t do it justice, but we have a bit of a privacy issue in the back. We haven’t pulled this last remaining portion of the fence down, until we’re ready to begin. Here’s a rough sketch up of what I’ve come up with plans-wise for said cabana.
We’ve planted some really pretty trees in the back, so this second wall will probably be only a few years kind of temporary, until the trees are big enough.
This photo may make zero sense right now, but it’s basically for positioning. An open-air porch area with storage on both sides.
And here’s a glimpse at the {rough sketch} side elevation.
This gives us ample room for one side to hold chemicals and tools, like the pool shark and nets. The other gives us space for floats, toys, goggles, etc. We plan to organize both sides so that the kids can easily access them, but they’ll also be sealed with doors when not in use. On Memorial Day weekend, I got a little carried away with all the sales, so I thought it would be fun to take a glimpse of the inside ‘design’ today. Because I’m super excited about how we plan to use the space!
We’re going with a fun, open-air cabana feel, maximizing our space. And we have a lot of ideas up our sleeves for the final look, but figured you’d enjoy a bit of a sneak peek today. Going out or order, please bear with me. {Some of the links below are affiliate links so that we can share fun ideas!}
Paint: We plan to pull from the same as the Side porch area:
Ceiling = SW Kendal Green + SW breaktime
Walls = Super paint Satin Extra White
But you can see we’re also all about shades of yellow, salmon, navy and more. We’re all about the traditional/mod cabana feel.
Lighting:
We’re obsessed with Kichler lighting. It’s no secret here. But we love the idea of these Elias wall lights on each side for the exterior
We also want to add a series of these twinkler lights, which are perfect for projecting stars at night.
And to keep it cool, a few of these fans because we love their streamlined look.
Tile
Of course we had to pull from our Jeffrey Court Faves : our Curated Selection. We adore Castelletto for a stylish pattern under foot.
Furniture
We took advantage of the sales over Memorial Day weekend, and jumped on these swing + cushion combos. We love the bright fun feel they’ll bring into the space!
As well as some pieces for this sofa. We love that we can break it up or keep it as one, and rearrange as needed. We used a combo of these pieces here + here.
Accessories:
Pillows – we’re all about the colors with these 1, 2, 3 {probably my favorite for that fun cabana feel}
Curtains: something similar to this
Art: yet to be decided, because you know we’ll add that, too. But we do adore this We already own her pool boy bell and ADORE it.
Thanks so much for tuning in guys, we hope this gives you an idea of the direction we’re headed!
There will probably be a few tweaks here and there but we can’t wait to get started.
Have an inspired day!
