Growing up in the deep south I (Jamin) was in the double digits, age-wise, before I really believed we had more than two seasons. Sure, they taught us about the seasons of the year in school, but experience taught me otherwise. There were 5-7 weeks of winter and then Summer, dead of Summer and late Summer (also known as college football season).
30 years later, it still feels the same and I’m pretty sure everyone is a liar. The heat seems to affect the kids more these days. I think it’s because we don’t push them out the door and let them roam freely in the neighborhood. Or let them drink out of the garden hose.
Those were the days. There must be some special heat-fighting nutrient you get from that. But apperantly the same people who told us there are 4 seasons in the South, are now declaring it unsafe. Never seemed to hurt me… But I digress.
We do love our kids being outside, even if it is 1 degree cooler than the surface of the sun.
I mean, that’s why we built the hideaway. We even moved school outside yesterday. They had a blast, even if they were dodging the ridiculously gargantuan carpenter bees. Is it just me or do they get bigger every year? I blame global warming {See trap as next on the to-do list. See Ashley run and scream like a girl. She says she is a girl… so there’s that.}
So when our friends at TTI (Makers of our favorite brands like RYOBI, Rigid, Stok) told us they were coming out with a new product we were all ears. And check this sucker out. Genius!
It’s a bucket top mister that runs off our 18v RYOBI batteries. How cool, literally, is that?!
It can be a simple portable fan or turn the pump switch on, and you have an amazing misting system to beat the heat. All you need is a bucket – or a hose – if you choose to use the mister. Think of the uses! Hello beach! Hello ballpark!
It’s the little things.
In the meantime, our kids are loving it for the backyard and I have a little surprise for them: Arctic Cove also has a misting kit system which I plan to rig up on the trampoline for the inevitable tropics of Alabama summer months. I’ll share that little bit of heaven later and if you’re really lucky, maybe a picture of the adults enjoying it too. I know. You’re counting down the days.
I took the Arctic Cove mister camping the other weekend and it was a bigger hit than the food. Not to mention, I slept with it on all night at it still had plenty of battery left. You can expect to see this guy in the background of work shots this summer helping me keep cool.
Cue slow motion video of us shaking our hair in front of it. And stuff. Maybe we can throw sawdust in the background for added drama.
Cue slow clap from you guys.
So what’s in it for you?
The awesome creators are giving away a Bucket Top Mister, Big Chill Misting Stand & 22’ DIY Misting Kit for your back porch. That’s over $150 worth of coolness. We would love for you to win! Follow the details below to enter… and Good Luck!

My son has cerebral palsy and since birth, he has had a difficult time regulating his body temp. In winter, his legs feel like little icicles and in the summer, he wilts like an overheated flower. I would use the Arctic Cove to keep him comfortable and help him enjoy our family’s summer activities.
Thanks for the chance!
Amy N says
Oh how I would love this for our Midwest summers! I know you in the South have it bad, but gosh, our Midwest summers are terrible too!

That is ingenious. My kids and I spend time at my mom’s cabin in rural Wisconsin and while not as hot as Alabama, it still can get hot and humid in the summer.
Patricia says
Not really an issue in Seattle. We have winter rain, spring rain (which lasts until after July 4th), summer, and at last, fall rain. We feel so sorry for the rest of the USA when our hot (to us) weather finally hits and it’s a whopping 82 degrees out. And freakishly enough, it’s never humid (unless actually raining.
Paige says

Here in MS, I feel your pain…or heat, if you will 🙂 My family would love this for playtime and cook outs in the backyard and for working on projects in the garage/driveway!
And the bees! Omg, I found some had drilled into a back slat on my porch swing. How is that even possible? They are as long as the slat is thick! Along with those, we have some coming and going from a hole at our garage door opening. So we’ve been combating them as well. The bees flying around don’t bother me too much, but if a wasp comes near I will run, scream, flail and possibly leave a child behind…jk…maybe 🙂
ashley @ the handmade home says
HAHA! I might leave a child behind too. Kiddingnotkidding. ;}

I know I sound really boring by saying this, but I’d probably just set it up outside for the kids… Up here in PA, we get lots of summer days that are 97 degrees with about 18,000% humidity, so any little bit of cooling helps, even if it’s just by adding more moisture to the air 🙂
Oh, the irony.
Thanks for the chance to win!

ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Jaclyn! The slide has been great! It doesn’t really get hot because it’s under the shade of our giant tree, but when it does get direct sun, the kids have never said anything about it. It has held up fantastically. I hope that helps!
