This past year, we had fun answering a few interview questions about our business. We’ve seen a few new faces lately, and thought it might help to share a few of them here, in a little bit of an FAQ’s of our business format for anyone who may be curious. The internet can be a big place, and thought it might be good to check in and tell you a little about us! Just in case you’re not familiar with what we do, or even if you are, we’ve added a little and evolved over time. So we thought we’d cover a little of what we do, right here.
As always add any questions that you may have in the comments below. We would love to answer them! So without further ado, FAQ’s at The Handmade Home.
1. When did you start The Handmade Home?
Ashley started the company in 2010, and Jamin ‘officially’ left his day job joined the ranks in 2014, though he was always working quietly behind {and beside} the scenes. We’ve been working together on projects since college, to be honest. Now, it’s just design, remodeling and real estate. We started out as college sweethearts and have been married since 2002, so I guess you could say it’s a good partnership!
2. Where are you located?
Our official headquarters are in Franklin, Tennessee just outside of Nashville. We offer design services to clients both locally and nationally. So from assisting in paint colors, to full on gut-outs and remodels for a home to function beautifully, we love helping our clients create the homes of their dreams.
3. Can you share a little bit of your process and philosophy?
We don’t believe in the dream home, we believe in your home.
I think that even though we’re about to list all our services below, the simple matter of it is, that phrase. The television-worthy dream home is kind of myth, and we’re here to shatter it in the best way.
We are a full-service design and remodeling company creating one of a kind looks for our clients. We take on a little bit of everything, but one of our favorites is creating beautiful spaces for people out of the forgotten places. For instance, taking a house no one else would touch, and turning it into a home. Or adding square footage and adding value to the house by transforming that gross garage with a great design solution. These are the parts of our job that we adore, because we’re always excited to rise to the challenge. We know that we’ve done our jobs well at the end of the day, when there are smiles on those faces. It’s our very favorite part.
The process of changing your home into something that you love can be a daunting task. A home needs to work hard for you but it also needs to reflect those who live there. It’s easy to be brainwashed by television when things happen magically during a commercial break. And in the design world, a realistic, beautiful home can feel intentionally unattainable at times. So we approach it all from an authentic place and offer services which are formulated specifically to the individual, to help create a look that our clients are thrilled with.

At the end of the day, we want you to love your home. We’ve been there with our own home in the process of a complete remodel, and it truly helps to have someone to hold your hand and walk through the journey with you. From searching for a house, to the implementation of a design that works in smart ways, and carrying it through to the very end with that photographic finish, we have a service for any need. We know it’s a job well done when there are happy tears from those who didn’t realize it was possible.
Trusting us with this process is a real honor we never take lightly, and we love helping in any capacity.
4. What do you mean by full service?
Simply put, we meet all your needs when it comes to renovating your home.
All good renovations start with the design and that’s our bread and butter. But we don’t end there, whether your project calls for a general contractor, or if you want to save on the general contractor fees, we have a plan for you. At the end of the day, we put the client first and the functional implemented design that they are happy with, is the ultimate end goal.
That means that we’re helping you from the very beginning of the project with the first meeting, all the way through that final photograph at the end with all the details that make your house feel like a home. The finishing touches and little details are our favorite part, and we’re here to hold your hand all the way through that process.
Sometimes, we work with contractors, sometimes we don’t. We’re happy to tailor the experience to the client’s needs, but we’re here to help you reach your end goal, either way.

Our goal is to take you from concept through construction on a plan that meets your needs, budget and desires.
We approach renovations holistically and realistically, because not all renovations are the same. Renovations do and must start with design, something many people misunderstand. A word of advice: never let a General contractor be your first call or meeting… it can honestly be getting the cart before the horse. Start with a good design so it can dictate your project in the very best of ways.
Bonus: If you start with a good design then you may find {as many of our clients have} you have more options from the beginning. This is what we mean by full service. We provide options, because not all projects are the same and our goal is to serve your project in the best way possible, so that the outcome is above and beyond.
5. Are you also in Real Estate?
With over a decade of experience in the home sector, we’ve expanded to real estate! You can see our entire series here.
We offer Real Estate services, and Jamin is an agent with Benchmark Realty, bringing a unique perspective to the home search category. We love helping individuals and families find that perfect fit for them. From the possibilities of a new space, to elements people usually miss, it helps to have an experienced, knowledgeable eye when searching for a new house or trying to sell your own home.
It’s the perfect fit, since the two really go hand in hand. We know good bones when we see them, and we adore helping our clients find the right space. Finding a new home can be overwhelming, so it truly helps to have an experienced eye.
So, not only can we help you create the home of your dreams, but assist in the process of finding one, too.
We love to use our industry knowledge to help clients find the right house, whether it’s move-in ready or needing a little love, we have the experience to help you create that dream home. If you’re selling, we can help there too, from handling all the ins and outs of the selling process, we also have an eye for making your home look amazing for those potential buyers.
We look forward to serving you or any of your friends in any capacity needed. Just simply reach out to Jamin via cell 334.398.3316. Or for fun, start searching for homes here.
6. What are some other things that you work on with your business?
• Content Creation
If you’re not familiar with the two above, you definitely know about this one since it’s probably why you’re here. This is another pivotal role in what we do at The Handmade Home. It’s how our company was born, years ago, and at the heart of what we do. The Handmade Home began from a desire to connect with others, and bring a little inspiration to the every day.
We create content here, from inspiring finds to advice for your home, as well as new ideas you just might love.
Free printables, diy projects, lifestyle ideas and confessional humor… we’ve been online for longer than anything, and have a little bit of everything here. Authenticity is what drives the heart of what we do. We hope you find some fun inspiring things, at the very least.
• Brand Ambassadors
As a result of our website, we absolutely love partnering nationally with fabulous home brands. We value our partnerships with amazing companies like Kichler Lighting, Jeffrey Court Tile, Frog Tape, The Home Depot, Delta Faucets, Overstock, and more. This is another multifaceted avenue in which we work together to bring beautiful, one of a kind homes to life.
• Art for your home
Keep an eye out, because we’re expanding here as well. An artist at heart, Ashley is currently adding her collection for one-of-a-kind pieces for the home, and bringing amazing paintings available for purchase in the shop to bring that unique look to your spaces.
We also love all things stained glass, so you can check out this entire series, here.
Bonus round: Ashley just launched her own subscription service when it comes to all things fashion! Your first month is free. Check out all the details here.
