Well, I must say, it’s bitter sweet.
The fact that little Malone is turning one (this tuesday!) kind of breaks my heart, and makes it soar, all at once. My life was incomplete until this little surprise came into it. With an unexpected pregnancy it was the start of a crazy adventure. It literally seems like just yesterday, I was announcing his arrival. Still reeling from an, uh, fun filled delivery, it was quite the reward to see his siblings, family and friends delight in his big debut. I’ve never seen such an expression of excellent triumph on Aiden’s face as I did the day we told him Malone was a boy. (he was a surprise all the way…right until I gave the last push-one of my most cherished life experiences.) He’s one of the best three gifts God ever blessed Jamin and myself with. And those baby blues… will melt anyone’s heart. It’s been an incredible first year, and I can’t remember what life was like without him. What a precious little man he is.
My only complaint: It goes by Way. Too. Fast.
In the meantime, we decided to celebrate with a small family only partay. A little mister birthday, if you will. {I totally took the idea from my bff Jillina-props to her…who stole it from someone else…so props to them.} Looking back, we kind of freaked out with Aiden’s first birthday. We were THOSE parents. The ones who invited fifty million people and had a huge luau cookout combo. Now that we’re on our third, and we caught on to the fact that he really has no clue what’s going on anyway…smaller partays are the way to go (read: us getting away with it while we can…)
We hung ties (provided by papa) and passed out sticky mustaches for the kids. I had planned to do chocolate mustaches on a stick, as well, but those fell through. So…I did hand stitched mustaches from felt. The multi colored addition. Shirt (as seen below-and bib) were done by my dear friend Abbie. (props to Abbie…woot woot.)
Mustache cupcake toppers are hard to come by. So I made my own.
At this point, I was a little torn:
This is adorable.
I am a neat freak.
I let it go on a little longer…out of all three of my babes, Malone actually knew what to do with his at his birthday.
Priceless.
I’m framing this one.
opening gifts: Malone had lots of help. That’s great since he could care less.
The older kiddos played with his toys,
while he played with the paper.
Fun times were had by all!
