We like big mutts and we cannot lie, and this time it was for a doghouse.
If you’ve been reading here for any time, you know we have a place in our hearts for rescue pups.
Even our logo is based off our first rescue fur baby, Chloe, and now we’re the {sometimes exhausted} parents of two more.
So our own puppers Rigby and Fitz were more than happy to lend a paw for a friend in need.
You see, their friend Smoosh is the goodest boi. After having an accident with a car, he sadly lost his leg. But he’s a scruffy little trooper, because this story definitely has a happy ending. Smoosh was able to keep his adorable new name, and his sweet new family who rescued and fell in love with him at first sight. He was taken in by Snooty Giggles, a local shelter, and his new family found him.
Seriously, we’ve never seen a happier dog. We love him so.
Rigby and Fitz got to work on painting and constructing it all.
Challenge accepted. Move. That. Bus. {Photoshopped courtesy of Smoosh’s hooman dad.}
The pups gathered for a group shot to celebrate the end of a job well done. Even if Rigby and Fitz do look confused.
They were all, “We no gets to keeps it?”
Smoosh is an indoor dog, of course, but he loves his family and is most definitely living his bestest life with three hooman siblings and one {also recently rescued from Snooty Giggles} little sister scruffy pup.
We’ll be sharing the full how to very soon, but first… a tour.
We loved adding a deck and pergola for the lazy dog days of lounging.
The accent colors wouldn’t be the same without the help of the fabulous Sherwin Williams, who donated this paint to a good cause!
• Waterscape: for the stripes, door, monogram + part of the window
• Connor’s Lakefront: Such a beautiful blue for the roof + all the accent colors you see, like the spigot knob, stripes + windows
• Convivial Yellow: the brick and stripes
• Extra White: for that beautiful base color – which is also the color of our own house.
Didn’t it turn out beautifully? We also loved adding bright colors for pops of fun, with the pillows and bunting to make it feel extra celebratory.
This is a shot of the girls trying it out, before Smoosh arrived for the big reveal…
Lounging approved. Maybe that’s why they had the confused look in the pic above.
Three of the requirements in the challenge for this doghouse, {besides the fact that we’ve upcycled the classic little Tykes cottage} was that we needed some type of bone decor, a fire hydrant, and toy storage.
We felt that the flag holder was just begging to be used for some fun accents. It felt so pro-puppers to fly a little doggy bone, all prepster style.
And the fire hydrant is handmade by us.
Which also doubles as… wait for it….
Storage! Wheeeee! We feel so clever right now.
We made this from a garbage can + rope – I’ll be sharing more of that next week, too. This actually really does make for clever storage if you have a fur baby of your own and want to try making one. And it’s pretty cute if we do say so ourselves.
But Smoosh’s face made it all worth it.
We love how excited he was about his new little doghouse / club house / lounging station. We felt inspired by the Hamptons and wanted to give him that beachside cottage feel.
Of course we couldn’t resist adding a little monogram for his name, and a personalized doorbell.
I mean, what’s a dog house without a doorbell? Yes, all of this is super extra. {If I’m not extra, what am I?}
He’s so happy! We also can’t even with his little matching bowtie.
Of course we also had to add a little window box, because again, why not?
Plenty of napping room, it’s oh so cozy for him.
Doesn’t he make the best model? We loved this little photoshoot with the sweetest little guy.
Oh, and just for funsies, we decided to create a little luxury real estate listing video for Smoosh’s dog house. Enjoy.
Check out our how – to’s for the doghouse here.
Thanks so much for dropping by! Have an inspired day!
