Melissa wrote in and asked: “…I am curious about some elements that you think make a great entryway space. I’m always looking for great tips and was wondering if you have any from spaces you’ve taken on in the past?…”
Say no more… we’re happy to tackle this post today: Smart Entryway Spaces! And what makes them that way.
• Smart Entryway Spaces: The Drop Zone
Honestly, this is one of our faves because this entire space was such a game changer for our own family. Once an un-useable garage, it went from crusty to not-so-much when we got our hands on it. This space works hard for us every day, since we use our secondary entrance as our primary one.
This was our before. See more of the entire space, here!
• Smart Entryway Spaces: Create a Mudroom/Transitional Spot
This pool house build needed a fresh changing area as its main drop zone, so we were sure to include it with our sweet client ! It helps to have an entirely space when you can.
This allows for all things swimsuit changes. But in every day life, would also be a great change for all things shoes, bags and more.
We literally helped her establish a little alcove here, and it was a perfect space for just that. Check it out here!
• Smart Entryway Spaces: Divide and Conquer
Have a longer space or room that isn’t making much sense?
Before, this long formal living room felt like a bit of modern day wasted space. Designating two areas from one gave it a new lease on life, and purpose upon the home’s front entryway.
• Smart Entryway Spaces: The Smallest Changes with the Biggest Difference
Give That Staircase a New Lease on Life! This home didn’t need that much to make their primary entry and foyer feel a little more updated. But we love the way that the staircase was given a new lease on life!
What a fresh change.
We also established a small drop zone, even though the area was a bit narrower. It helps to cozy it up.
• Smart Entryway Spaces: Repurpose What isn’t Working
Same house, but all things back door off their pool: This room in the back was previously their laundry room, and just not working for them. So they moved the laundry upstairs, and created a drop zone for the entire family.
It makes much more sense now and works hard for their family.
• Smart entryway spaces: Secondary Entries
Can still have lots of style! The before of this utility closet wasn’t working, so we gave it a new look. Because of where the electrical was located, it made sense to place a barn door here and make it actually work, visually. With a new seating area to boot, it gives the family a great zone in their fabulous basement.
See this entire space here – we love the way it works visually now!
• Smart Entryway Spaces: Simple Hooks for the Win
Another example of a secondary entrance right off of a pool and backyard area with this garage redo. It makes sense to add something small so that a wall becomes more functional.
Smart Entryway Spaces: Enclose It
This multi-functional Airbnb space called for a bit of a makeover with lots of purpose. So a walkthrough butler’s pantry also doubles for storage, with their awesome cabinets to contain it all.
See the rest of the space here.
Smart Entryway Spaces: Little Moments
Personality says everything! Smaller spaces can be a moment too, with charming pieces added. A mirror makes it feel larger, a plant says fresh, and the basket to corral all the things!
And this space is big on personality with bolder pattern.
What are some of your favorite ideas for smart entryway spaces? We’d love to hear!
Have an inspired day!
