We’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be back today on Nashville News Channel 5’s Talk of the Town!
This is part two of our last segment, and today on the show, we’re sharing one of our very favorite tips with Frogtape® straight from our kitchen with the fabulous Meryll Rose.
{Jamin was on camera duty behind the scenes!}
You can catch said segment if you’re in the Nashville area via News Channel 5’s Talk of the Town Monday at 11am CST– and there’s live streaming online here: www.newschannel5.com. They are the absolute best to work with and being on with them is always so much fun. We hope you’ll tune in!
But without further ado, and in case you’re stopping by from that little snippet and wanted more details, we’re sharing it again!
Here’s the perfect way to spruce up a frame with Frogtape®.
This is something that we’ve used forever and a day. It’s always our favorite tip. We think that stripes never go out of style, and from old frames to matting, patterns around your house and everything in between, we love adding stripes! {See tips for a gallery wall in a tight space, here!}
We used the same technique in a different way, when we took on this dining room makeover for our fabulous clients.
We shared more tips with FrogTape® here.
And it was our favorite application on our door in The Handmade Hideaway!
Because everyone needs a striped door.
The possibilities with this easy little tip are oh so endless.
But our most recent version of this little creation can be spied in our studio reveal from a few weeks ago.
And it’s oh so easy, we’re back to lay out the steps!
Here’s what you’ll need:
• A frame of your choice. This can be a handmade frame, a rehabbed frame, one you picked up on sale that you want to practice on, etc. The possibilities for this one are kind of endless. Don’t forget, you can apply it to the mat like the photos seen above, too!
• Frogtape®. Seriously. It’s the best.
• A brush + Paint We use any acrylic of house paint around our home, and probably some paper towels for easy clean up, in case you need it!
• An X-Acto Blade Totally optional, but if you want to match up your angles on your frame, this helps keep the lines sharp. We’ll show you below.
First things first, choose a side, and let’s begin. Cover one side completely with Frogtape®.
Yep, it’s that easy. We think this is the simplest way to put it, but you can also go one piece at a time, and literally leapfrog the tape as you go. {See what we did there?}
I always line one up perfectly on one edge to begin.
It doesn’t matter if it’s perfect because math with these will be a little different every time. If you’d like to measure, You can start from the middle and make it even. Be our guest! This is the easy peasy option.
Once you’ve completed one side, take your X-Acto knife, and lightly trim on that edge, so that your stripes will follow the angles. You’ll see what I mean, below. This just makes it easier to keep up with, before beginning on the next side.
When you’re finished with the first side, and it’s covered completely with tape, remove every other one.
These will be your stripes!
One side is ready to go!
Once you’re finished with this first side, repeat on all the other sides. Trim the angled edges as shown, as you go. You can see what I mean in this photo below, for the finished look, and in our segment above where we demonstrate the cut. This way the tape follows this line, and the frame is ready to be painted.
Again, don’t worry if your corners aren’t completely equal. Some frames will be, some will not. We think this adds to the varied charm of it all.
Lightly paint with the paint of your choice, in between each green piece of tape. We recommend painting away from the paint. You can go for a dry brushed {lighter} application, or a heavier one.
Both are shown in the photos below. We think whatever you choose is a winner.
Side note: We even wrap the colors around the edges of the frames, so that the stripes can be seen from the side if you hang your frame, or wherever you decide to place it.
Now for the fun part, it’s time to remove your tape!
Tada!
We threw in a fun casual pic of us last summer with the kids – we were having a blast at Dollywood. We love formal photos, but sweet memories on our phones are always in our favorite snapshots.
These make a great gift, or look great in your home!
{Shhhh – we won’t tell if you’re keeping it for yourself.}
This is our favorite, easy peasy project for sprucing up old {and sometimes new} frames!
As always, let us know if you have any questions.
And of course we’d love to see if you try it! ;}
It was such an honor to be featured on Talk of the Town again! If you’re tuning in from that show, we hope you found that helpful.
Be sure to let us know – Thanks so much for stopping by!
Have an inspired day
