A sweet reader, Katie, wrote in recently and asked this:
“I love all the lights you guys use in your renovations! I was wondering if you would share which are your favorites?…”
We thought this was a great question, so we’ve rounded up a few of our very favorite lights for this post. {With Kichler, of course!} We’re sharing some of our faves, along with why we feel like they worked in the space. Our favorite lights!
Shopping for lights online can be tricky.
Their photos usually don’t do them justice, but the good news is, they look amazing in real life. So it’s always helpful to see some in an actual real life space.
Take this fresh kitchen renovation, for instance.
It’s so hard to pick a favorite space, but these lights added so much more to their kitchen! This kitchen is a part of one big open space, so the lights really helped anchor the room. We love the way they anchored their living area, and added so much to their room. We combined them with this fabulous sconce and the effect was a real game changer.
Lights seen here: The Tollis Collection + Ellerbeck {sconce}.
In our own pool room addition, we’re smitten by this light. Why it works: large and in charge, it brings in a modern flare to the space. Combined with the unexpected element of aged mercury glass, friends tell us it reminds them of old car headlights. We love the combo of a modern but complex design, combined with really simple sconces in a beautiful brass finish.
Lights used here: The Vance {I could cry because I just saw where it’s been discontinued} – we found a great substitute here in their morrigan design, coming to a kitchen design reveal we have up our sleeves, very soon! + the Alden sconces
On the other side of the space, is this light. We had no idea how much we’d love it, because it brought an entirely different element in. The design is surprisingly clean, and we love the vintage feel.
This gives the vibe of a chandelier, without being too formal. Iron 6 light chandelier in vintage gray
This design may be one of our very favorite dining room projects.
It was a simple, delightful project with so much wow. And I don’t know about you guys, but we’ll never get tired of that wallpaper.
This chandelier was like a crowning jewel to the space. It really brought it to life, when you compare it to the before. Light and airy, but it also really centers that table in the room.
Light used here: Birkdale Collection – Here’s a similar style.
This kitchen got a happy little makeover compared to its before, and we loved the outcome!
The Devin 3 light pendants in here are oh so great in a tighter space, because they are sure to keep it open and airy! You may be able to glimpse the Maclain pendant over the sink, too!
The Erzo six light chandelier in their cozy eat in area paired nicely with the rest of the space, and offered a great contrast in its simple modern lines, especially when combined with the more organic shape of the pendants over the island.
This modern kitchen makeover is a great example of making those closed in spaces open, again.
The lights work here with their amazing scale, to bring in so much personality to the space. Can you imagine the room without them? Sure, but not quite the stunna we would have hoped for. Like good earrings to an outfit, y’all.
We loved combining the Taubert pendants with this amazing Linara chandelier, and even the simple Clyde sconce over the kitchen window!
In the poolhouse, we loved adding these sconces all around the room for the perfect night time ambience.
These are from the Colerne Collection, and are kind of magical, if you ask us.
Here’s a closer look at all that character.
And because I know you want to see more of that seating area… In a large space like this one, the Hayman chandelier was a perfect pick.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to hang larger pieces on sloped ceiling lines. They self-adjust and look great.
This kitchen is one of our faves, because of the simple changes that happened with it.
It’s almost like this space got a little lift / tuck, and was brought into modern day…
Lights can be the answer to your design conundrum. These clients were trying to open up their kitchen as much as possible. While we don’t have a fantastic before photo, one of the support columns was removed while the other was minimized. The positioning overhead meant that they wanted to add character, but the lights meant everything to what we chose.
These sconces from the Everly collection brought in light, while anchoring the space, without becoming too overwhelming. Teir placement also dealt with a potentially awkward issue. A great choice for a ton of character, if you aren’t sure what to use in a tight spot.
In our own kitchen, you may haven noticed we’ve updated with a few lights.
These sconces are so much fun, I fell in love immediately, and upgraded to these puppies over the kitchen island. They draw the eye up, without dominating the space. They’re so amazing, they just maybe my very favorite. The Hattaras Bay line – just did a beach house with lights in this. The polished nickel is scrumptious.
And for a main living area light, we loved upgrading to the Botanica collection. We love it so much, we used it again for a client in our Airbnb makeover. Or maybe we chose it for her and then installed it in our own home.. we can’t remember.
See the airbnb makeover here.
Our basement has been one of our very favorite transformations.
The sconces are no longer available, but we recommend these here.
We also adore this simple Arlo flush mount + Brisbane Chandelier
Anything beats this before but we love all the warmth these lights brought into the space.
And of course, this chandelier {Brookglen} / sconce combo {one of our very faves – Rumer – can be a pendant, too!} in our studio!
So what are some of your favorite lights? We’d love to hear!
