twelve spaces transformed by wallpaper + a few best tips

Jen wrote in and asked, “I would love to do some wallpaper in my home, but my partner isn’t thrilled about it. I finally got him to agree, but I thought I’d check in to see if you have any tips or inspiration first. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!”

We hope these before-and-afters gave you a few great ideas! So, after seeing multiple installations in our own home and our clients’ homes, here are a few of our best tips we’d love to share.

  1. Cover the outlets + switches. No really. If you hire someone, they should know to go the extra mile. We’ve worked with multiple pros at this point, and it may seem silly… but it’s all in those details.
  2. Hire a pro. Which brings us to this point. I’ll never paint my own cabinets again, and I will never ever wallpaper my own walls. You think they can’t tell… but they can tell. Trust. Unless you’ve done multiple walls and you’re an expert… why suffer?
  3. And on hiring: Ask to see their work. Also, don’t hire a hobbyist. Not some person who does it on the side. Hire the expert. Don’t be cheap. Do it.
  4. Stay away from self-adhesive. I’m editing this one. It’s not a hard and fast rule, especially for renters if it’s removable. This is a word of wisdom from my own trusted source. He swears that the self-adhesive stuff just doesn’t work as well as the “real stuff”. I get it… Sometimes you fall in love with the self-adhesive. Sometimes you make it work. But if you can, avoid the fake stuff.
  5. Pick something you truly love, and you won’t tire of it. A lot of people shy away out of fear, and it’s just wallpaper. I personally have a lot of it professionally installed throughout my own home. I chose what I love and I have zero regrets, especially with some of these patterns nearly a decade later.

Have you taken on wallpaper in your own home? We’d love to hear some of your favorite finds + tips. Have an inspired day!
